Questions Our Customers Ask About Facials:

  • How often should I get a facial?

To attain a healthy, glowing complexion, typically you will want to get a facial treatment once a month, or every 4 weeks. However, this can change slightly depending on your natural skin type. For example, someone with oily skin can get a treatment every 3 weeks, whereas someone with drier skin can go every 5 weeks.

Keep in mind that our bodies appreciate routine, and getting regular facial treatments helps train your skin. With consistency over time, your skin cells can adapt to retain more moisture and reduce acne breakouts. It’s also highly beneficial to couple a daily skincare routine with regular facials to maintain radiant skin.

  • What not to do before a facial?

To get the most out of your facial, avoid changing your skincare routine, shaving or waxing any treatment areas, or using face masks or peels within a week of your appointment. Any dramatic changes to your skin beforehand could cause irritation during or after the facial and will make it difficult to recognize post-facial results.

Do not try to remove acne just before or after your appointment. Your treatment specialist will extract acne during your facial. If your specialist leaves any clogged pores, it is most likely because the acne was not ready to be removed yet and should not be forced.

You may experience redness or skin peeling after your facial (this is your skin’s way of purging any leftover impurities), so try not to book your appointment too close to a major event. We recommend booking at least 5 days before an event.

  • How do I prepare for my first facial?

Whether it’s your first or hundredth facial, there are a few things you can do to ensure you get the most out of your treatment!

Each facial includes different elements, but generally follows the same process. Understanding these steps can help you feel prepared for your treatment. At The Face Space, our facials begin with a double cleanse, followed by steaming to open up your pores. Your aesthetician will then extract impurities and exfoliate dead skin cells. We then finish up by sealing your pores with whichever technique works best for your facial.

Just before your appointment, remove all makeup, try to be well-rested and hydrated, and avoid consuming caffeine. Sleeplessness, dehydration, and stimulants like caffeine may cause twitching during your treatment.

Be sure to tell your aesthetician if you are on any medications, have allergies, or are pregnant, so they can use the right products for your health. Also, wait for any burns or lesions on your face to heal before attending your appointment.

  • What not to do after a facial?

Immediately after your facial, do not wet your face and stay away from hot rooms—like saunas—for at least a few hours. Products from your treatment need time to fully absorb.

Avoid applying heavy makeup or products and refrain from working out for 24 hours. Your pores will be larger than normal, so your face will be more susceptible to bacteria, irritation, and breakouts.

Try to stay out of the sun for at least a week, and be sure to wear sunscreen (look for noncomedogenic ingredients, like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) every day.

Especially after a facial, avoid touching or picking at your skin, and be sure to follow after-care tips provided by your treatment specialist.

  • What happens to your face after a facial?

We take pride in delivering a relaxing and refreshing experience through every step of your facial. During and after treatment, your face will feel fresh, clean, and more hydrated. As a result of enjoying some self-care, you will likely also feel less tension and fatigue.

Over the few days following your facial, you may experience redness, swelling, peeling, or breakouts. Do not fear though, these are normal reactions that help your skin cells purge leftover impurities and bounce back with a tender, soft glow!

If you receive regular facial treatments, you should notice over time that your skin stays softer and more hydrated longer!
